Magnolia Creek rolled out the red carpet for the Houston Golf League. All the stars came out all dressed to impress and ready to play. This was a
who's-who event in which everyone brought their A-game. The 2021 grammy winner, Jose Sanchez, made his 2022 season's debut. Newcomer of the year, Kyle Neitzey, was looking razor sharp. The Little
Brothers were styling and profiling down the fairways as always. Even the cast of the seasoned regulars, Turner, Villareal, Ballou, and Gilmore came out with their Sunday's best game. Haja and
Richardson, the two 2022 best supporting players, showed up looking dapper. Ethan Hawke, Bulthouse, and Hugo Boss Amaro were even par for this extravaganza.
There was a big name that went under the radar. He got snubbed by one shot from the money in the masters. He didn't get nominated in the U.S. Open at the Wilderness. His name was not on the marquee
when the
tournament started. So when Kendrick Massengill popped out of the limo with jeans, tee shirts, and a hard hat, everyone's jaws dropped. He went to work on every star out there as soon as he
hit the course by paring 17 holes and birding one to shoot a gross score 71 giving a net score six under. The average net score of the field was 72.5 (not counting my 89) was the league's
best.
What that tells me is the stars showed up and showed out. The 2022 Masters winner, Detriek Little, was one shot away from winning his second tournament of the year. Detriek finished with a tie with
Kendrick but lost in a scorecard playoff. Jose Sanchez, the player who everyone was expecting to take home the Oscar, finished in third place one shot back despite having 8 birdies. The fourth place
went to the newbie, Kyle Neitzey, who handled himself extremely well among all the superstars. So many players shot well at Magnolia Creek like Ballou, Gilmore, and Haja all shot 3 under and returned
home scratching their heads wondering what happened. There's one reality that has to be accepted. Some players shined a little brighter than others. No one shined brighter than KENDRICK MASSENGILL.
Congratulations on your first Houston Golf League victory! Keep your hard hat on your head and you will continue to win.
