Every now and then, the Golf gods would talk to me and tell me who is going to win an event. And this week God's told me it was going to be Victor. I assumed it was Victor Rangel, aka Pretty Boy. As the tournament got underway it was looking like the golf gods were right again. Pretty Boy was putting on a show and was up 3 after six holes. He was chipping it close and making some clutch stroke savings putts. He was locked in and seemed poised to win his second career victory. But as the Golf gods do, they will play a cruel and mean trick. Let me explain his playing partner, who is named Victor Victor Alazan, who was playing very well and, at the turn, managed to pull within one shot Rangel. They battle back and front throughout the back nine and Almazan was up one on 18 tee boxes. Rangel's tee shot found the water on the right while Victor Alazan's tee shot was right down the middle, but he decided to upon his second. Rangel's meltdown continued even when he got to the green with a 4-putt. His snowman sent him falling down to seventh place. But while the Victors were beating each other another player was sneaking up on them. Nathan Simcox picked up four shots on the closing holes 15,16 and 17. And he approached the 18 tee boxes in the final, paring. He needed a par to send the match to a scorecard playoff. But a double bogey on 18 was the best Nathan could do leaving him still with a smile on his face and optimism for the 2025 season. Well, the golf gods were right again. It wasn't who I thought was going to win, but it was a nice surprise to see Victor Alamzan win his first tournament as a member of the Houston Golf League. Congratulations Victor on your well-deserved victory.
