Gabe Ramos wins his 8th tournament of his career in superstar fashion. Let me set the table to this instant, classic unfolding right before my eyes. At the turn, this tournament looked like a Colbert's Family Reunion where Khris and Craig Colbert were preparing to serve the league potato salad and coleslaw. On 15, the meat was ready to come off the grill and place on the table. Then on 16, a couple of unexpected and distant family members popped up without RSVP. It was Uncle Gabe Ramos and Cousin Jaime Villarreal. They both arrived with big appetites ready to eat everything. Villarreal plopped his butt down first at Colbert's family table with a healthy-sized plate of ribs and potato salad and an even-par 36 on the back. Annoyed and irritated by unwanted guests, Craig doubled 16 and fell a couple of shots back which left Jr. to defend the charging Ramos who pulled within two-shot on 16. Khris is known in the family to have a big heart by being generous and hospitable to unwanted guests making them warm and comfortable. So Chris boogies 16 and 18 to hand over the top spot at the table for Gabe to sit with the biggest plate and the last rib. Gabe's comeback was complete because all he needed was to par 18 to win the match so anything more, Khris would have been the Champion. Ramos pulls his tee ball dead left just a few feet short of the water. His approach shot was within 25 feet with a big break in it. This left him with a three-putt possibility. He left his birdie putt 5 feet short. He knew he needed to make it for the win and that's exactly what he did right in the heart. And just like that, the Colbert's Family Reunion was ruined. Congratulations, Gabe.
You are only two wins away from joining your cousin, Jaime Villarreal, as Hall of Famers.
