CHRIS WEBB

I HEARD THAT!

Players often complain about their own handicaps—and about everyone else’s too. One day, a guy was talking about Chris Webb’s handicap while Chris was playing extremely well, leading the event by three or four shots. I’ve seen this happen a million times, so I told him, “Just wait. There’s a reason his handicap is where it is”—meaning that by the end of the round, Chris might blow up and fall back to the field. Sure enough, that’s exactly what happened: Chris lost his lead and dropped to fourth place. Chris overheard my comment, and he went to bed that night with those words on his mind as he prepared for the final round on Sunday. Honestly, he should have split the pot with me, because he used what I said as jet fuel. He came out absolutely blazing, shooting an even-par round for a gross 65—setting a league-low Player Championship final round record. Chris’s great play propelled him all the way to finish as the No. 3 ranked player of the 2025 season, giving him plenty to build on for next year. Congratulations, Chris, on a well-played round!Players often complain about their own handicaps—and about everyone else’s too.
