SAM GARCIA

THE ROOF IS ON FIRE!

Last weekend, a five-alarm fire broke out at Country Place, and when it comes to extinguishing out-of-control blazes, the league turns to its very own red-hot competitor, Sam Garcia, affectionately known as the Fireman. Armed with his axe, pick, water hose, and putter, Sam climbed from the depths of the burning building to the summit of the leaderboard.

Although his first five or six holes were lackluster, Sam ignited his game on the back nine, finishing with a remarkable 36 and leaving his competitors trailing by at least five shots. The inferno at Country Place saw numerous players attempting to douse the flames, only to be overwhelmed by smoke and the searing intensity of the competition.

Jarrod Ballou, for instance, seemed to jump out of a 16th-floor window with a devastating double bogey on holes 16 and 17, followed by a bogey on 18, which melted away his lead on the leaderboard. Victor Rangel also found himself too close to the flames; after hitting from the wrong tee box, he stumbled to a double-double finish on 17 and 18, plummeting to a fourth-place finish and leaving him empty-handed when he hit the ground.
Hal Gregory, known as the Pit Bull, battled through the chaos to secure a third-place finish, but not without a fierce showdown in the final four-match play event against Jaime Villarreal. Down by three with just three holes left, Hal showcased his tenacity, winning the last three holes to force a sudden death playoff. After four additional holes, Jaime finally advanced to the final match against Vincent Gilmore at Bay Forest on September 29th.

Meanwhile, Thatcher Cribbs, who had a slow start but was playing well, found his momentum disrupted when Sam Garcia seized the opportunity on holes 16 and 17, snatching the bucket of water from Thatcher’s hands. Sam surged from three down to one up, extinguishing the competition and emerging as the hero of the day.

It was a thrilling day of golf, filled with fierce competition and countless opportunities for victory. This is precisely why I created the league—to foster friendly rivalry among friends. Congratulations to Sam on his outstanding win and on earning the well-deserved nickname, The Fireman!
