HOUSTON GOLF LEAGUE

HOUSTON DUCKWALL

The league’s 2017 schedule is winding down, heading to the Eastside of town, where there are still a lot good golf and some fabulous golf courses left to play; Eagle Pointe, Bay Forrest, Wilderness in Lake Jackson and the season ending the tournament at L'Auberge in Lake Charles for the Players Championship. Not to mention the Culture Cup in Mid-October. Hurricane Harvey put a damper on the League leaving several members with water and wind damaged to their homes and other properties. Our prayers and blessing go out to you.  Longwood was on the schedule for last week but the tournament was moved to Southwyck.  The Southwyck tournament was a very competitive. Tournament League Director Tony Barnett and Gabe Ramos were winning the tournament up until the 6th hole but as the tournament was completed they were tied for second to last with a pair of 74, six shots behind the leader. The League’s top money list leader Jaime Villarreal got off to a rough start going 5 over in the first 5 holes but did manage to get hot on the back to finish in the middle of the pack. The two time MVP has not won this year, could The Greatness go winless in 2017 after gathering more wins than anybody in the history of the league. Finishing in that 5 spot was Roland Turner aka ‘The Captain’. His 42 on the front cost him the tournament he lead the field in fairways, putts, greens and low gross, 99% of the time that would win the tournament, but with Southwyck traps out of play and virtually no wind made the course toothless and very vulnerable to the rest of the field. E.B. Flores and David Blevins were paired together and finished in third place with a pair of 70s. Mike Fontenot was winning this tournament entering the tee box on 18 and just like he did the last time he was winning on 18, he put up the biggest number in the field at Kingwood Cove and again he put the biggest number in the field at Southwyck to lose by one shot. Fontenot has got to shake the pressure of winning and just relax he is too good of a player to let this happen to him again. Houston Duckwall played solid on both sides managing to play his best round of the year to win his first career victory of the Houston Golf League. Congratulation on placing yourself for a chance to win and punching your ticket to the Players Championship at L'Auberge in Lake Charles Nov 11th and 12th.
