JUAN MALAVE

WHAT RAIN

With the 90% probability of rain for Sunday, the likely hood of us playing was pretty bleak. You never know and our last group finished without getting wet. That is why it is very important to honor your commitment to playing. When players don't show it puts the league in a vulnerable position for several reasons, especially early  Sunday morning tee times the hosting course has to fill spots for the lost revenue based on our player count. When they charge the league for x number of players and when we don't meet the number of expected players caused by last-minute calls offs or just no-show the money has to come from the purse.  Which is a hard pill to swallow for all the players who did honor their commitment and showed up. The course was actually in good shape the 90-degree rule was in effect so we were not restricted to the cart path.
Juan Malave was able to capture his 4th victory this year giving him more wins than any player. I played with this young man this weekend and he has a beautiful swing and hits it a ton. Looking at his scores through the season he had some good rounds obviously with four wins and some terrible rounds to keep his handicap higher than what it should be. I went through each of his scorecards to see if he was possibly tanking at the end of the rounds to maintain his handicap and that was not the case. When he is on, he has the ability to play extremely well, A flight level and when he is not it's an all-day struggle for him. So the quandary of this situation would be in the 2019 season cap the number of strokes on one hole. Although the system only includes your good rounds and alleviate the bad rounds when a person does not have enough rounds in to fully and accurately calculate a players handicap that is where the problem shows up. The extremely low scores under par should be taking care of with this in place.  I am not by no means trying to diminish Juan's wins anyway, shape, form or fashion he won fair and square and my hat's off to him. The only thing I am trying to do is protect the League and its Players. So again, Congratulation Juan on a job well done.
