DAVID FELDSCHUA

GREAT START

Deep into the 12th hour of the kickoff of the 2019 season, mother nature was not in the best of moods. High winds, light drizzle and the temperatures on a bit of the chilly side, made even me, Mr. Optimistic feel a little pessimistic about playing the League Opener as scheduled.  The 30-minute drive over to the course had me texting and calling my players for guidance and reassurance. By the time I had reached the course, it was game on!  Everyone was in and still wanted to play.  My optimism quickly turned into enthusiasm with the participation of the new season.  All of the hard work I had put in would not be wasted even if mother nature was feeling a little bitchy. We teed off on time and it was apparent from the start of this tournament, it would be a nail biter.  One or two shots was the difference from first place all the way to 8th place. Even at the turn, it was still a six-man race. One of those guys, Mark Ripley who is arguably the league's best player but finished bogey, bogey, bogey the last three holes to drop to 6th. Vincent Gilmore and Ronnell Calixterio mirrored each other. They played the front ok but got hot on the back finishing 5th and 4th. Jaime Villarreal, David Feldschua and newcomer Rodney Griggs all finished in a three-way tie.for first place. Each of them had an opportunity to win it on 18. Rodney failed to get up and down after missing the green on his approach. Jaime missed a 7-foot birdie putt and David took a seven on the 18th. The league Open went down to a scorecard playoff between 3 players and it would be David Feldschau winning the first event of the 2019 season. Congratulations David on a job well done.

MITCH MOSES

WE FALL DOWN

Chris Allen is a very religious man, but this loss had to shake his faith. He must be wondering why the Golf Gods have left him in such a cold and lonely place.  Chris lead this tournament from the start and it was his to win or lose. There were 3 others close on his heels, Joe Hart, Joe Eckford, and Mitch Moses. Joe Hart was inspired to golf with a little extra motivation he had a sentimental reason, it's where he started playing golf as a child with his uncle. Hart could not quite keep his emotions in check at the finishing hole where it counts the most. He went 4 over on the closing 3 holes to finish his round 4 shots back. Next up was Joe Eckford, no doubt the best tournament of his career in the League. Eckford's slow starts are killing him. His 47 on the front was probably 4 or 5 shots giving up to course management.  He has to do a better job keeping the big numbers off his scorecard. After hole 6, he was the best golfer on the course in the B Flight. Now that takes us to Mitch Moses and Chris Allen. Chris was winning early and hitting it well, but stumbled and fell on 4 with a snowman 8. He recovers nicely the rest of the way in to shoot a field-low 41 on the front. Only down by one to Mitch, as it relates to there handicap after nine. Chris birdies 10 to flip Mitch and also picks up another shot on 12. He falls again with a double on 14 to tie the score back up. Chris birdies 15 to go up once again and both tie 16, Mitch beats him on 17 to go into 18 all tied up. This is where the story gets interesting they both missed the fairway and green, but Chris gets a visitor when he gets to the green by a 3 headed serpent. This serpent calls Chris' name 3 times for he knows Chris well. As the serpent slithers away into the hole, Chris is wondering why me!  On the other side of the coin, Mitch was truly the fortunate one. Congratulations Mitch you are the 2019 Season Opener Champ.
