BLUE TEAM

MUST READ

Let me explain, let me variably diagram, and let me hypothesize. Which means simply to make a hypothesis. Which is just a scientific way of saying "make a really good educated guess." Ok, so when someone hypothesizes there's a little bit more involved than just guesswork. It involves using your past knowledge and available facts to try and predict what might happen. Our team is based on 4 key players who have won The Culture Cup 4 of the 7 times we have played. Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, New England Patriots stuff yes, by all means. Every great team has a good core and Captain Roland Turner is the nucleus of the core, the floor general putting everyone in the right spot. Leading by example, first to show up and ready to play when its time to play. His MVP six points performance was the most in league history in a Culture Cup event. Next up is Vincent Gilmore who has no dought become the most improved player in the league over the past 4 years. His handicap was a max 22 when he first started and now his is a solid 7 who could beat anyone in the league when he is on. His 5 points and Roland's 6 points beat the Red team by them self.  The final two of the core are Lonnie Knowles and me. Lonnie and I have played 1000s of rounds together over the past 20 years or so. We know each other's game extremely well.  A prime example of that was on the closing 3 holes 16 and 17 I had just left 2 putts short on the lips to put the match all tied up with the Colbert's, the white team-best two players. Lonnie and Craig had blasted their tee shots right down the middle. Our balls sat right beside each other, Lonnie tells me to hit my knock down 5 iron with a little cut into the middle of the green.  He knows that is my go-to shot and sure enough, the 5 iron ended up right in the middle of the green 15 feet from the hole. Khris hits his shot in the bunker short side right and they bogeyed the hole. Giving us two points for the blue.
Let's examine inside the numbers to put to rest the fake news that the Blue is stacked and have the best players. The Saturday Morning best ball matches were dead even with 3 points for each team.  The White team was -3 under there handicap and the Red and Blue team was -2 under their handicap.  Now the alternate shot is a completely a different game. You depend on your playing partner for the success of the team. Captain Roland Turner paired the teams perfectly, but the paring is only the first of the plan execution is what makes the plan successful. Here is the first part why the Blue Teams won. We shot 9 shots over par compared to the White 19 over par and the red team 21 over par.  Alternate shot is the alternative in a team competition. And the Blue worked as a team we even dressed alike both days took the Culture Cup seriously. When I was making the calls to see if our guys were playing this is how it transpired.  Called Roland asked him if he was playing, he said that he had a class reunion that week out of town but count him in, called Vincent one time and he was in, Lonnie and David  one call and they were in. Chuck paid weeks in advance. What really bothers me I had to call off Jarrod Ballou and Mike Fonteno because the Red team was short 2 players and the White team was one short. The Blue Team players are totally committed to The Culture, we played as a team and the alternate shot showed how well we play as a team winning all three matches and gained 6 points, pretty must securing our 4 titles in cup play. To sum it all up the Blue players are totally committed on winning the cup and played the best golf in relation to their handicap in regarding Par.  The Red Team finished in last place with 7 points and shot 50 strokes over par. The White Team finished second place with 11.5 points and shot 43 over par. The Blue Team won with 17.5 points and 30 shots over par. The bottom line is quite simple, play good and you will have a chance to win. It has nothing to do with Culture cup format or any misconceived notion that I have stacked the teams to win. The format is fair, especially with the handicaps, the same handicap we play with all year. So Congratulations on the  Blue Team 4th Cup Title on a job well done.
PS. Play better guys or the Blue Team will win again next year!
